The Certificate In Applied Astrology - Correspondence Course

AstroSynthesis offers its Certificate in Applied Astrology through distance learning.  We have endeavoured to make our syllabus as thorough as possible without extraneous and unnecessary information.  The program has been developed over many years of teaching experience in order to facilitate the student’s comprehension of the basics of astrology.  The course includes eight units as follows:

  • THE WHEEL OF LIFE: Elements and Signs of the Zodiac
  • ENERGIES OF LIFE: Understanding the Planetary Archetypes
  • ASPECTS OF LIFE:    The Twelve Houses and Aspects of the Horoscope
  • CONSIDERING THE HOROSCOPE: Astrological Analysis
  • LIFE PARTNERS: Family Dynamics and Relationship Patterns
  • CYCLES OF LIFE: Planetary Returns, Transits and Eclipses
  • LIFE SKILLS: Resources in the Horoscope
  • TIMES OF LIFE: Future Trends and Progressing the Horoscope

Each unit in the Astro*Synthesis distance learning program consists of:

  • 10 CD’s, specifically recorded for the distance learning program,
  • Workbook with detailed notes, two Astro*Synthesis student booklets & supplementary reading,
  • a suggested reading list,
  • exercises; and
  • an assignment or assignments to be assessed (if part of the Certificate in Applied Astrology)

Below is a general outline of each unit in the AstroóSynthesis Correspondence Course:

UNIT 1: THE WHEEL OF LIFE: Elements and Signs of the Zodiac

An introduction to astrology followed by a thorough examination of the four elements, the three qualities and their psychological and astrological correspondences.  Then the twelve signs of the zodiac will be covered in detail.  The signs of the zodiac or ‘wheel of life’ symbolise twelve initiatory stages in the individuation process, which represent essential qualities of human experience.

.

UNIT 2: THE ENERGIES OF LIFE: Planetary Archetypes

The planetary pantheon we will cover consists of the ten planets of contemporary astrology, including the Sun and Moon, and Chiron.  Planetary archetypes will be thoroughly examined with reference to their psychological, mythological and astrological qualities.  Metaphorically the planets represent the powerful urges, energies and instincts underpinning all of life that motivate and influence every human being.

.

UNIT 3: ASPECTS OF LIFE: The Twelve Houses and Aspects of the Horoscope

The angles of the horoscope, or the Ascendant, Descendant, MC, and IC, are the reference points of our lives orientating us to the world.  We will study these along with the four quadrants and hemispheres of the horoscope.  The twelve houses will be taught in reference to the process of human development and experience.  We will synthesise planets in signs and houses as well as signs on house cusps, beginning to give meaning to astrological statements. Major aspects are the astrological threads that weave archetypal patterns into the tapestry of our lives.

Symbolising the planetary dialogues aspects reveal sub-personalities in the horoscope.  Aspects, as the lifelines between planets, will be thoroughly examined including aspect patterns and planetary pictures.  Many examples of the complexity of planets in aspect will be shown.

UNIT 4: CONSIDERING THE HOROSCOPE: Astrological Analysis

New material on specialised topics such as the lunar nodes, intercepted signs, retrograde planets, the lunation cycle and the vertex will be presented in order for the student to be able to have an appreciation of the fullness of the horoscope.

UNIT 5: LIFE PARTNERS: Family Dynamics & Relationship Patterns

We will concentrate on the areas of parental issues, sibling dynamics and the family of origin exploring astrological and psychological themes in depth.  Relationship potential and relating will also be covered
in detail. Patterns of adult relationship as revealed by the astrological statements of the horoscope will be explored.

UNIT 6: CYCLES OF LIFE: Planetary Cycles and Transits

The cycles and transits of all the planets, including Chiron will be covered in detail.  Stages of the life cycle such as adolescence, mid-life, the 50’s etc. will be explored in context of the planetary cycles. This unit focuses on the synchronicity between human experience and events, rites of passages, transitions and the personal and generational planetary cycles.

UNIT 7: LIFE SKILLS: Resources in the Horoscope

The horoscope reveals powerful resources, which are available to the individual.  During this unit we will explore both physical and mental health and ways to maintain well being and a healthy lifestyle.  This will entail examination of a range of emotional states.
Vocational issues and work will also be explored.
The four main asteroids and the Black Moon Lilith will
be introduced as potent indicators of feminine resources.

UNIT 8: TIMES OF LIFE: Future Trends and Progressing the Horoscope

Progressions and Directions will be introduced however we will concentrate on secondary progressions, studying the cycles of the progressed planets as well as the progressed lunation cycle.   Methods that will help us determine upcoming trends for an individual will be presented.  Solar and lunar eclipses along with the cycle of the lunar nodes will also be examined. The unit ends with an overview of presenting a chart for delineation and consultation.

Each lesson has been recorded exclusively for the correspondence course unlike other courses using classroom recordings.  Students keep all the materials supplied in the course. Our approach is humanistic and therefore this theme, along with psychology and mythology, is interwoven throughout the course.  We recommend three months per unit; however the student works at the pace they feel comfortable with.  We suggest about 4-6 hours a week study which includes listening to the class, taking notes, doing the exercises, supplementary reading and your own self study and extra reading.  Brian Clark has developed this course and all the tapes and CD’s have been recorded by Brian specifically for this course.

There are two streams available within the correspondence course. The first stream is interest only.  This is offered to individuals who are interested in self-study without the commitment to a regular course of study or assessment.   This stream includes all the materials; however it is not necessary to submit assignments.  This stream does not include assessment and is geared for students who are interested in self study and development, without the process of accreditation or examination.  The student can elect to sit the Federation of Australian Astrologer’s exams later if they wish.

Astro*Synthesis has had a regular teaching program since 1986 and has offered the Certificate in Applied Astrology successfully for all these years.  Our course has been audited and approved by the Association of Professional Astrologers in Australia and the Association of Professional Astrologers International.  We recognise that many astrological courses are now available, therefore if the student is still unaware of which course to commit to we suggest that you order only the first unit in the interest series, then if you would like to continue you are welcome to join the accreditation stream.

Assessment for the Certificate is based on eight assignments completed during the course of the program.  Generally assignments are completed and returned at the end of each unit of study.  The final examination is completed at the end of the final unit.

Fees for the Interest Only stream are Australian $205.00 per term or if the full year’s fees are paid in advance the fee is $695.00.  The full year’s tapes and notes will be sent to you if you have registered for the full year.  For students outside Australia or New Zealand the fees with be Australia $220.00 per term or $750.00 per year, if paid in full at the beginning of the course.  All materials will be sent economy airmail. If more than one unit is ordered, then a discount will apply.

The second stream is The Certificate in Applied Astrology.  This stream is designed for students seeking accreditation in astrology.  This includes all materials and you are required to submit your assignments to the tutor, as well as sit for the examinations at the end of the second year.  You will also be able to contact your tutor if the need arises. Fees for this stream are payable at the beginning of each term.  Fees for the Certificate stream are $250.00 per term for all students. For students outside Australia or New Zealand the fees with be Australia $275.00 per unit.  All materials will be sent economy airmail.
