ABOUT ASTRO*SYNTHESIS
Astro*Synthesis was founded in Melbourne in 1986 as an astrological education program. Since this time Astro*Synthesis has consistently offered an in-depth program into the application of astrology from a psychological perspective.
The Astro*Synthesis program includes a distance learning program with tutorials, seminars, workshops and conferences which ultimately can lead to the Diploma in Applied Astrology. However, any part of our program can be attended for your interest only.
Astro*Synthesis offers its Certificate in Applied Astrology through distance learning. The correspondence course also has a stream available for students interested in studying astrology for interest only, without pursuing formal qualifications. The Diploma in Applied Astrology is also offered by distance learning. Students accepted into the program will supplement their course of study with tutorials and a supervision group as well as extra participation in conferences and workshops.
The main tutors in the program are Brian Clark and Glennys Lawton. Both Brian and Glennys are Accredited Astrology Teachers (AAT) with the Federation of Australian Astrologers (FAA) and teach classes on all levels of the program.
Astro*Synthesis administers its own exams. However students may also choose to sit examinations set by the Federation of Australian Astrologers (www.faainc.org.au). The Astro*Synthesis Diploma has been recognised by the Association for Professional Astrologers (APA) in Australia as well as the Association for Professional Astrologers International (www.professionalastrologers.org). Assessment does not apply to those students who wish to undertake astrological study for their own interest.
As part of the program, a series of booklets on astrological theory and practice have been prepared for students. These are also available for sale to the public (click here). Astro*Synthesis also sponsors major conferences, seminars and workshops and in the past has presented international conferences and summer schools on astrology. Astro*Synthesis strives to maintain the highest standard in teaching and supports the astrological community through an active engagement with all astrological organisations.
The foundation of the course is constructed so as to utilise astrology as a tool for greater awareness of the self, others and the world at large. The approach is humanistic and therefore psychology and mythology are interwoven in order to provide deeper meaning behind the astrological symbolism. Astrological and psychological processes are explored in depth.
BRIAN CLARK has been active in astrology since 1972, having served as National President for The Fraternity for Canadian Astrologers and The Federation of Australian Astrologers (FAA) as well as the chairman of the APA, the Association of Professional Astrologers. He has twice received awards from the Canadian astrological society, received the Education Award from the Federation of Australian Astrologers and been nominated four times for an international Regulus Award. He is registered with the Federation as an Accredited Astrology Teacher. Brian has also been honoured with a Life membership from the FAA and a Fellow Membership from the APA.
Brian also lectures on myth in the Nexus program and conducts tours to sacred suites in Greece through Odyssey. Brian has his MA and BA (Hons) in Classics and Archaeology from Melbourne University. He has taught astrology for the past 34 years and lectured extensively to metaphysical, astrological and psychological groups in Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, United States, UK, Canada, Mexico and Europe. He is the author of Celestial Tarot (US Games, Inc: 2007), The Sibling Constellation (Penguin Arkana: 1999) and a contributing author to Intimate Relationships (Llewellyn: 1991) which have also been translated into French and Japanese. As well Brian has written numerous articles for leading astrological publications in English, translations in Spanish, French, Italian and German, and is the author of numerous students booklets on astrology available through AstroSynthesis.
GLENNYS LAWTON has been an integral figure in the development of humanistic astrology in Melbourne, having taught person-centred astrology in an ongoing structured format for the past 30 years, first with the College of Humanistic Astrology and then with Astro*Synthesis. She has also been honoured as the first Life Member of the Association for Professional Astrologers.
