Odyssey Tours to the Sacred Sites of Ancient Greece
Nor, indeed, has anyone explained the passion which binds the Philhellene to Greece. One might suppose it innate in certain temperaments. But the Philhellenes are not calculable; the travellers are diverse, only the spell under which they return is the same. And the passion is ineradicable.
These are the words of Dilys Powell writing about Humfry Payne's passion for Greece in The Traveller's Journey is Done. Humfry Payne excavated Perachora, the harbour sanctuary to Hera that sits at the tip of the peninsula opposite Corinth. Powell understands those disposed to Greece are brought back by a spell that defies description.
And for over a decade Odyssey Tours has led many travellers back to the heartland of our classical roots and shared the excitement, stimulation and awesomeness of Greece's bounty from the majesty of Delphi to the Sanctuary of the Great Gods on Samothraki and from the Asclepion at Kos to the Oracle of the Dead at Ephyra. We have walked on Mount Olympus, through the Centaurian forest and the sacred way at the Heraion of Samos. We have imagined the initiations at Eleusis, the young girls racing at Brauron and dream incubations at Epidaurus.
Our journeys are unique in that each itinerary is different and we participate with the ethos of Greece not just observe it. Since pilgrimage is an archetypal process where travel and events in the outer world mirror our inner journey, our odyssey takes place on a number of levels simultaneously. Therefore each morning we experience a dream group which honour the inner process and allows our experience to be soulful. And along the way we have seminars and discussion groups led by Brian Clark and Peter O'Connor.
In 2013 we will leading another tour; this is special in that we are limiting our numbers to twelve and only offering places to those who have been with us on previous trips. However in 2014 we will be conducting a similar tour and if you are interested please do not hesitate to be in contact for more information or to be on our mailing list.
