COUNSELLING and the ASTROLOGER

This program explores the essential skills necessary in the counselling process and has been designed to highlight areas that are unique for the astrological counsellor. Topics that will be covered will include the micro-skills of counselling, stress management, crisis intervention, trauma, loss and grief. Part of the course will also include the specific challenges of an astrological counselling session, how we begin, create rapport and end the session as well as how we may begin to create a referral network.
This course spans five days and each workshop is designed to focus on a particular matter of importance for the astrologer in developing their counselling skills and expertise. Each workshop commences at 10 am and will end at 4.30 pm. The fee for each seminar is $120. A discount applies if paid in full at commencement of the series. Glennys Lawton will also conduct an ongoing supervision group for counselling astrologers beginning in May 2010.

Client Preparation and the Micro-Skills of Counselling
Today we will focus on how to prepare for an astrological reading/session and introduce counselling skills that are essential to the process.
2. Saturday, March 27
Transference, Projective Identification and Wishful Thinking
How do we as astrologers articulate the difficulties and strengths of a chart without getting caught colluding with the client, or engaging in their fantasies or impossible dreams.
3. Sunday, April 18
Dealing with Emotive Complexities
As counsellors astrologers need to be prepared for difficult emotional situations and the client’s stories of loss, grief, trauma and sadness.
4. Sunday, May 2
Other Horoscopes: Partners, Children, Siblings and Parents
How might we deal with situation that involve others – how do we conduct a synastry session with a couple. How do we read a child’s chart? What are the ethics of speaking of others when they are not present? All these issues will appear in your consulting room and need consideration.
5. Saturday, May 15
Ethics, Beliefs and Practice
As astrologers integrity and ethics are important in the consulting room: what are your ethical and moral obligations? What are your beliefs concerning astrology and how do these influence the way you perceive the horoscope? How do you set up a practice and what do you expect from your practice?
Since attendance will be limited to a small number, preference will be given to those individuals who commit to all five sessions. Before registering it is necessary to speak with the facilitator Glennys Lawton to ascertain whether the program is appropriate for your needs.
COUNSELLING and the ASTROLOGER
- a supervision group
This group is for astrological practitioners to gain feedback, assurance, additional skills, as well as a place to explore their feelings about what comes up for them during their interactions with clients. Supervision is a necessary adjunct to the counselling astrologer as it helps to sharpen skills, consider their own processes triggered in consultations as well as become more effective and dynamic counsellors and astrologers. This is a closed group with a maximum of 6 participants.
A commitment for all 12 supervision groups is necessary. Each participant in the group must be seeing clients astrologically and be ready to bring cases to the supervision group. The total hours are the minimum set down by the APA requirements.
Before registering for the group you need to speak with Glennys regarding suitability for the group.
Each group will last for three hours from 10 am to 1 pm. The fee for each supervision group is $70 per session. A discount applies if paid in full at commencement of the series.
