DRAMA, DREAM and the SOUL

a residential weekend expedition into the soulful terrain of myths, drama & dreams

with Peter O’Connor & Brian Clark

Yarra Valley Conference Centre. The Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia.
October 1-3, 2010

Drama Friday, October 1
After introductions and a light supper, Brian and Peter will
focus on myth and dream and their profound resonance with the psyche. As part of the discussion Peter will prepare the group for the dream experience and Brian will co-ordinate reading roles for the classical play which will be used.

The two Greek tragedies that we will concentrate on are
Alcestis and Medea both potent plays that focus on the
compelling fate of relationship and relatedness. These plays
by Euripides present us with powerful themes that pervade
our personal, familial and professional lives.

Dream Saturday, October 2
In the morning we will begin with an experiential dream group led by Peter. After the morning coffee break Brian will introduce us to some of the powerful myths of Greece that tell us about relationships, women and men and marriage. Then we will turn to two Greek tragedies Alcestis and Medea and read excerpts from these engaging dramas. We will continue throughout the day to explore the various psychological themes and emotions that are inherent in these classical dramas. Morning and afternoon teas, lunch and dinner are included.

Soul Sunday, October 3
In the morning Peter will lead the final dream group of the
weekend. After the morning break Brian and Peter will consider
the mythic themes that address the nurturing of the psyche. To
finalise we will reflect on the task of how to en-soul the everyday
and sustain an imaginative life.

Our weekend of musing will be held in the enchanting surround of the Yarra Valley. Places are limited so early booking is
recommended. Fees include all seminars and groups including 4-
star accommodation with private ensuite, all breakfasts, lunches,
morning and aft

It is increasingly difficult in our everyday world to sustain contact with the imagination and inner life yet it is vital for maintaining meaning and coherence in our lives. Two disciplines which stir the imagination and awaken the inner life are myths and dreams. Whether it is the larger story of myth or the personal narrative of a dream, both converse in the language of the psyche. On this
residential weekend seminar Brian Clark and Peter O’Connor will use images, symbols and metaphors that arise from myths and dreams to reveal the personal and archetypal patterns of the
human experience that engage us in soul making.

As part of the weekend seminar both Peter and Brian will work with the powerful dialogue of the 5th Century playwrights to set the stage for our work with myth and dreams. Brian will use mythic story lines and classical drama to develop an awareness of the archetypal patterns that myth exposes, while Peter will conduct dream groups to enrich and give personal meaning to soul. Both Brian and Peter will lead discussion groups and seminars on the personal and collective patterns exposed through reading the plays, exploring the dream and discussing the myths.

The venue is the Yarra Valley Conference Centre, only one hour from Melbourne’s CBD or Tullamarine airport, yet set amongst the rolling vine covered hills of the Yarra Valley. The weekend residential begins at 7:30 pm on Friday night (check in from 5 pm) and will close after lunch on Sunday.
